Whalers ram Greenpeace ship

The Arctic Sunrise has been deliberately rammed and damaged by the Nisshin Maru, the factory ship of the Japanese whaling fleet. This video footage was taken from both our ships with Shane Rattenbury explaining what happened. In particular the second half of the footage, shot from the Esperanza, clearly shows events.

Whalers ram Greenpeace ship

Greenpeace ship MY Esperanza and her inflatables, try to hinder the shooting and eventual transfer of a minke whale by the Yushin Maru No.2 catcher ship. After two and a half hours of running the gauntlet between the harpoon and the whale the activists witnessed the eventual kill of the whale. Büyütmek için tıklayın

Defending the whales

In day two of our confrontation with the whalers, we used our inflatable boats and water fans to block the harpoons. You can read first hand accounts from the activists at the Ocean Defenders blog.

Greenpeace ship MY Esperanza witness the killing of whales in the Southern Ocean by the Kyo Maru No.1 ships of the Japanese whaling fleet, and the transfer of the whales to the Nisshin Maru factory ship.

Defending Our Oceans

As part of the Greenpeace expedition to Defend Our Oceans, we are in the Southern Ocean to oppose continued whaling in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. These pictures were taken as the two ships, the Esperanza and the Arctic Sunrise battled huge seas on route to intercept the whaling ships.
