Whalers ram Greenpeace ship

The Arctic Sunrise has been deliberately rammed and damaged by the Nisshin Maru, the factory ship of the Japanese whaling fleet. This video footage was taken from both our ships with Shane Rattenbury explaining what happened. In particular the second half of the footage, shot from the Esperanza, clearly shows events.

Defending the whales

In day two of our confrontation with the whalers, we used our inflatable boats and water fans to block the harpoons. You can read first hand accounts from the activists at the Ocean Defenders blog.

Whale action on the Southern Ocean 1

The Greenpeace ship Esperanza makes first contact with the Japanese whaling fleet in the Southern Ocean. Activists on inflatable boats from Greenpeace hinder the transfer of a harpooned Minke whale to the factory ship for processing.

Whale action on the Southern Ocean 2

The Greenpeace ship Esperanza bore witness to the killing of Minke whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary by the Japanese whaling fleet. Warning - images of whale killing and processing are quite disturbing.

Whale action on the Southern Ocean 3

Deep Sea Trawling

An overview of the destruction caused by deep sea trawling, including footage gathered by the Rainbow Warrior in the Tasman Sea in 2004 and 2005. A version of this video was presented to UNICPOLOS (United Nations open-ended informal consultative process on oceans and the law of the sea) in 2005.
