The Gulf of California in Mexico was named the "World’s Aquarium" by Jacques Cousteau because of its rich marine life. The Esperanza sails the Gulf of California to highlight the threats to this marine life.

Philippines oil spill

Damage caused by the oil slick from the sunken Petron-chartered single hull vessel oil tanker in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras Island, Philippines. The tanker sank on Friday 11th August spilling 2.1 million litres of fuel oil causing a huge slick. Greenpeace called on the Philippine government to hold oil firm Petron and its partners accountable for damages to the environment and people’s livelihoods resulting from the worst oil spill in Philippine history.
